19,244 TEU ‘MSC Zoe’ to be christened in Hamburg this weekend

MSC Germany will host the maiden call and christening of the container vessel ‘MSC Zoe’ at the Hamburg terminal.

On Sunday 2nd August, MSC will welcome business partners and their families, the vessels’ shipbuilders DSME, classification society DNV-GL, local authorities and financiers. The vessel is named after the daughter of MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Mr. Pierfrancesco Vago and MSC Group CFO Mrs. Alexa Aponte Vago. “MSC Zoe” is the third of the company’s ‘Oscar class’ series of 19,224 TEU vessels.

The christening ceremony is an important moment in the life of the ship and her crew and is an occasion steeped in tradition. It involves the exchange of the vessels crest, breaking a bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull and the ceremonial ribbon cutting on the bridge. Mr. and Mrs. Vago, together with 4-year-old Zoe, will attend the event along with close friends and family.
