Adriatic Gate Container Terminal turns three

Port of Rijeka: Adriattic Gate Container Terminal made numerous changes since ICTSI Group became the majority shareholder

Last week Adritatic Gate Container Terminal (AGTC) celebrated its third anniversary. Exactly three years have passed since International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), a global company which is in the business of acquiring, developing, managing and operating container ports and terminals worldwide, has entered the ownership structure of Adriatic Gate j.s.c., taking over 51 per cent of the shares from Port of Rijeka j.s.c..

Since then, there were numerous changes on the terminal – the quay wall was extended from 300 meters to 628 meters. So the terminal got a new berth with depth of more than 14 meters, designed to call with the largest container ships sailing the Adriatic sea. The new container yard increased the terminal capacity to 450,000 TEUs, while the completion of works on the intermodal area will further increase the total terminal capacity to 600,000 TEUs.

More than EUR 30 million has already been invested in new IT (terminal operating system – TOS) and operational technology (new Post Panamax S2S cranes, RTGs, RMGs, RS, trailers, terminal tractors ..) thus developing AGCT into a modern container terminal.

Finally, Croatia’s accession to the EU has opened up numerous market opportunities for AGCT as the gateway, which is also marked with 15 per cent growth in throughput in 1st quarter 2014 compared to the same period last year. Annual throughput in 2013 was 131,000 TEUs.
