ASDA boosts throughput at Brackmills distribution centre

ASDA has increased throughput at its Brackmills garment distribution centre following equipment upgrades from conveyor and sortation system provider Dürkopp Fördertechnik.

The retailer ships 155,000 products daily through the 602,000 sq ft facility in Northampton. The upgrades from Dürkopp Fördertechnik include an additional inter-floor conveyor, which every hour can carry up to 800 trolleys, each capable of carrying 60 items.

Nathan Bower, senior manager engineering at ASDA, said: Dürkopp Fördertechnik supplied and installed the original conveyor system and it has run very successfully. However, sales volumes of the George brand both in-store and online have increased significantly and we needed to boost the conveying capacity to deal with the additional throughput.

In addition to servicing ASDAs Brackmill distribution centre, Dürkopp Fördertechnik services the retailers 581,000 sq ft northern clothing distribution centre in Washington, Tyne & Wear.

Annette Sommer, UK general manager for Dürkopp Fördertechnik, said: George at ASDA is one of the UKs most popular clothing brands and I am delighted that once again Dürkopp Fördertechnik equipment is helping to speed items to ASDAs customers.
