“Austria Tirol Haus“ travels to Sotschi with DB Schenker Logistics

DB Schenker Logistics team overcomes many challenges and transports “Austria Tirol Haus“ to Russia

Since the end of October DB SCHENKERsportevents has been transporting some 300 tonnes of equipment for the construction of the 1,000 m² ‚Austria Tirol House‘ with two floors to the venue of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, on behalf of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC). Cargo loads include steel, tent, and floor structures, which are being transported by land to Russia via Germany, Austria, Poland, and Ukraine for the construction of hospitality hot spots for national and international guests of the Winter Olympics.

“A number of issues, for example in customs processing, such as the conversion of the CTIR process, ask the organiser and logistics partner for some challenges. Translation of customs documents to Russian and verification are also demanding“, the company states in a press release.

According to this information, the operation of ferry between Novorossiysk and Sochi will be turned off by end of December 2013. Border stops can currently take two to five days. To use the M27 federal highway to Sochi, a special permit has to be obtained in advance.

„Thanks to its global network, DB Schenker can provide a professional service to the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) and other suppliers from around the world in connection with their projects for the 2014 Olympics in spite of the current challenges,“ explains Kurt Leidinger, CEO of Schenker & Co AG for Austria and South East Europe. Austrian Olympic Committee Secretary-General, Dr. Peter Mennel, confirms: „So far we have been able to rely on the logistics team of DB Schenker unreservedly.“
