Bremen’s port industry shows strong performance in Austria

Bremen port industry wants to expand sea cargo transit with Austria; this also with the contribution of the Container Freight Station in Bremerhaven

For the Bremen port industry Austria remains a market of particular relevance, emphasised representatives of the maritime industry in Bremen and Bremerhaven at two „logistics talk“ events last week, at the Cargo Center Graz and Saturn Tower in Vienna. At both events projects to handle expected increases in overseas traffic that are being implemented or in the pipeline were presented to the numerous representatives of Austrian forwarders, shipping agencies, container operators and cargo railways.

Forecasts on behalf of the German Federal Government says that container terminals in Bremerhaven will see the throughput volume double to around 12.4 million TEU per year by 2030. „We must and we will have to prepare targeted measures – also in view of the seaport hinterland transport by truck and rail,“ explained Uwe Will (Managing Director via Bremen Foundation) and Wolfgang Schiemann (CEO Eurogate Container Terminal Bremerhaven GmbH).

In its Austria business Eurogate Container Terminal Bremerhaven puts the focus on the provision of additional services apart from pure container handling. In this context, reference was made at the events in Graz and Vienna especially to the Eurogate Container Freight Station (CFS) in Bremerhaven, which is already serving renowned customers from the Austrian beverage and pulp industry. They should be followed by more clients, wished the representatives of Bremen’s port industry.
