Burghausen container terminal receives operating licence

Regional government of Upper Bavaria gives the green light for the start of operation of the combined road/rail cargo transport in Burghausen

The terminal for combined road / rail transport in Burghausen may start operation. The government of Upper Bavaria has now given the operating licence to the RegioInvest Inn-Salzach GmbH. Thus, the economy in the chemical triangle can now make use of a powerful facility for loading of containers and other boxes onto rail. Road transport of containers to the terminals in Munich or Salzburg thus become unnecessary.

The government of Upper Bavaria is responsible for the approval of construction projects of not federally owned railways and the operating license. The plant in Burghausen was completed and RegioInvest has filed the necessary documents now. The government has approved the new construction project requested by the RegioInvest Inn-Salzach GmbH for a public container station unique in this region, from 30 October 2012. The operation can start now.

In September 2013 RegioInvest Inn-Salzach GmbH awarded the operatorship for the under construction Burghausen container terminal in a public tender to a consortium consisting of DB Schenker BTT GmbH, the German Umschlaggesellschaft Schiene-Straße (DUSS) mbH and Karl Schmidt Spedition GmbH & Co. KG. The contract with this consortium will be valid for 20 years. The terminal will be operated under the name „KTB – Kombiterminal Burghausen GmbH“, for which the four companies come together.
