China – Europe: PLUVIS jumps on the “LCL-bandwagon” of DB Schenker

As of now DB Schenker offers a rail solution for general cargo shipments (LCL) from China to Europe. This enables companies to reduce their lead times for smaller and medium-sized cargo volumes and make their supply chain to and from Asia more effective and economic. This means customers no longer have to book entire containers, but can also order space for smaller cargo shipments.

The Salzburg-based start-up company PLUVIS, developer of the world’s first umbrellas with a LED light on the screen-tip and the umbrella stick, already relies on the innovative logistics solution of the internationally operating provider of logistics services. “Within just 18 days DB Schenker carried over 2,700 umbrellas from China to Salzburg in a first rush job for us – from terminal to terminal – with all services from one source and including all customs formalities” reports Kilian Becker, CEO PLUVIS.

Twice as fast as by sea, which takes about 38 days, and a lot cheaper than airfreight, the transports on the “iron silk road” go halfway around the world within 18 days: from China via Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany to Austria.

To meet the increasing demand, DB Schenker has already set up its own groupage cargo transports, covering the route from Wuhan (China) – to Duisburg (Germany) every week. What is a great added value, is apart from its reliability, the container train also saves the environment. Railway, compared to air freight, saves more than 90 percent of CO2 emissions.

“An innovative company needs an innovative logistics solution. We are pleased that we can support PLUVIS with this new transport solution. Our goal is to offer the rail transport also to other customers as an alternative to air and sea freight,” says Helmut Schweighofer, CEO DB Schenker in Austria and Southeastern Europe. Since 2010, the weekly rail departures of DB Schenker to China have increased tenfold.
