CMA CGM is starting the “Citrus Express” service

CMA CGM launches the “Citrus Express” service for seasonal exportation of fruits between East Mediterranean and Black Sea

CMA CGM Group announces the start of its “Citrus Express” seasonal service in November. Spread over two rotations, this service enables to export citrus fruits and apples from East Mediterranean to the Black Sea.

It will call the ports of:

– Syria, Turkey and the Black Sea, from November to January

– Egypt, Syria, Turkey and the Black Sea, from January to April

The Turkish lemons and tangerines, the Egyptian oranges or the Syrian apples will all be carried on refrigerated containers. Thanks to a very high tech technology which keeps them at a temperature, a humidity and an atmosphere adapted to transport, those Reefers Containers will ensure their perfect conservation.

The citrus market is growing and benefits the export countries. With 80% of the citrus being produced on the Mediterranean coast, the “Citrus Express” service relies on the Group expertise regarding refrigerated container shipping and then meets its clients’ expectations.

“With ‘Citrus Express’, we are responding to our clients’ demand at best and we support citrus export development in Turkey and Egypt. The objective is to propose a more reliable and ecological alternative to road transport which also presents a risk of spoilage. With the Reefers containers, all degradation will be avoided”, Vice-President of CMA CGM Asia Med Lines Stephane Courquin says.

CMA CGM, founded and led by Jacques R. Saadé is the world’s third largest container shipping company and has a turnover of USD 15.9 billion in 2013.
