Contargo wins major order from Daimler

Contargo Wörth-Karlsruhe GmbH will operate the container yard at Daimler’s new consolidation centre in Speyer from 1 April 2015

Daimler AG has set up a new logistics centre in the south of Speyer. This is where production material from suppliers will be consolidated and forwarded to the major Mercedes-Benz car works abroad in China, South Africa and the U.S. Operation will be launched gradually from spring 2015. From 2016 full operation shall start with several hundred maritime containers per week being carried by barge or on the railway to the seaports of Antwerp and Bremerhaven.

Contargo will run the 61,000 m² large container yard in two shift operation. Loading or unloading containers to trucks, storing containers as well as loading or unloading and transporting to the gates of the logistics centre are the daily business of the container specialist from Wörth – now in a new form, just outside the gates of the customer.

„Winning the tender for the operation of container yard at the new consolidation centre in Speyer is another important milestone in the development of the Contargo group,“ said Wolfgang Schlegel, Managing Director of Contargo Wörth-Karlsruhe GmbH.

Contargo in Wörth and Karlsruhe links the economic region of Southern Palatinate, Baden and Alsace (Pamina) to the western seaports. The two trimodal terminals in Wörth and in the Rhine port of Karlsruhe offer the complete service range for containers: transhipment, storage, maintenance and repair as well as stuffing and stripping. Apart from handling equipment for containers both terminal are equipped with a ro-ro loading ramp.
