DB Schenker brings the Alpine Ski World Cup to Bulgaria

Transport of over 400 tonnes of cargo in the Pirin Mountains to an altitude of 2,000 meters; Bulgarian Ski Federation counts on DB Schenker Logistics

Only a couple of days after the World Cup weekend in Maribor, Slovenia, and the Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek, the ladies on the ski team travel to Bulgaria, and DB Schenker accompanies them. This is because from February 27 to March 1 the Audi FIS Ladies’ Alpine Ski World Cup takes place in the Bulgarian ski area of Bansko.

DB Schenker Logistics is assisting the Bulgarian Ski Federation and taking over the transport of over 400 tonnes of equipment. Aside from skiing and racing gear, such as sports equipment and safety nets, parts of the VIP area and materials from the sponsors for Austria, Germany and Slovenia are also being transported to Bansko. Right after the race, the ladies and the equipment have to depart for Alpine Skiing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. DB Schenker likewise organises and coordinates all return and onward transport for materials at this location.

“We are very proud that DB Schenker was chosen as the official logistics partner for this important sporting event in Bansko. Through our global network and our years of experience, we can fulfill all logistical needs and guarantee a smooth transport flow, even in challenging regions like the Pirin Mountains,” says Kurt Leidinger, CEO of DB Schenker in Austria and South East Europe.

For many years, DB Schenker has been successfully engaged in the sports logistics sector and has at its disposal extensive experience in servicing the logistical needs of major international sporting events.

The Austrian Olympic Committee (Ă–OC) and the Austrian Ski Federation (Ă–SV) have also relied on the know-how of the globally operating logistics provider for years.

With over 20 years of successful business operation, DB Schenker Logistics has a workforce of about 260 employees at seven locations in Bulgaria, which cover a logistics area of over 30,000 m².
