DB Schenker forwards Blum fittings CO2-friendly to Finland

The intermodal transport solution by DB Schenker allows tansporting goods to Finland fast and easily, but also environmentally friendly. Combining maritime, truck and rail transport unites the strengths of each transport mode and thereby reduces CO2 emissions considerably.

The globally operating company dealing with furniture fittings, based in Vorarlberg, has been relying on the relevant expertise of the international logistics service provider since 2011. This helped reducing the CO2-emissions on the route to Finland by about a 25 percent.

“The transport process runs smoothly and also saves the environment. Compared to the conventional transport route to Finland, we have been able to save 106 tonnes of CO2 already,” says Ingmar Blum, Head of Transport Logistics, Julius Blum GmbH in Höchst.

The pick-up of loads can be arranged individually and flexibly from Monday to Thursday every week – all over Austria – depending on the customer’s request. The freight is then transported by truck, train and ship on the fastest way to Helsinki, and subsequently forwarded by throughout Finland. To date, already 260 loads on behalf of Blum were transported northbound using this intermodal transport.
