DS Smith backs plastics pledge

DS Smith is promoting a Defra-backed initiative aimed at encouraging further recycling of plastic-based products.

Pledge4Plastic aims to encourage people to recycle an additional one plastic bottle per week. The scheme was developed in partnership with Coca Cola, Marks & Spencer, Unilever, Nestle Waters, Closed Loop Recycling and Valpak, and it comes as a response to recycling targets set by the government.

Between 2013-2017, the UK packaging industry is being requested to double its recycling levels. Recent surveys reveal that Polyethylene terephthalate is the most recycled plastic material in Europe. In 2013, the equivalent of 65 billion bottles were recycled, representing a year-on-year increase of seven per cent.

DS Smith will be exhibiting at the Logistics Link North exhibition later this month, which returns to Doncaster Racecourse on 15th and 16th October – making it the best place for logistics, warehouse and distribution managers to find the latest innovations in intra-logistics technology.

A host of leading companies will be showing innovations in warehouse management and automation, software solutions, adaptive packaging, intelligent picking, materials handling and mobile technology.

The show provides the opportunity to meet key suppliers, attend live demos to get invaluable first-hand insight into how products work in practice, and pick up practical know-how in seminars.
