FALLine opens the season for the Great Lakes

Liner service of the Canadian shipping company Fednav offers North Atlantic-trade for bulk and general cargo calling Antwerp, Brake and Stettin

This year the Fednav shipping company launched even three departures within a short period from the German North Sea coast to the Great Lakes to open the 2015 season for the FALLine service (Federal Atlantic Lakes Line). Brake/ Unterweser will be the port for exports. General cargo such as iron and steel products, project loads or components of wind power plants will be accepted for transport.

During the winter season, from about mid-December to the end of April, the Great Lakes are closed for large marine vessels due to maintenance works at the complex system of locks and waterways. Fednav offers calls in the ports of the St. Laurence River, depending on volumes.

Fednav has been a major player in North Atlantic trade for the past 55 years. The shipping company operates a fleet of 33 modern Laker vessels with up to 37,500 dwt, which are adapted to the flow of goods to and from the Great Lakes. Another 21 units are due for delivery by 2018. They are well equipped for both bulk and general cargo. During each season the shipping company transports more than 1 million tonnes of cargo between Northern Europe – Antwerp, Brake, Szczecin – to the US/Canada, among others to Sorel, Hamilton, Cleveland, Detroit, Burns Harbor, Milwaukee, Thunderbay and Duluth.

Both in Bremen and Hamburg in the FALLine service has been represented by the Paul Günther Schiffsmakler GmbH company since 1973. In Austria, the Vienna-based company Cargo-Compass acts as shipping agency.
