Freight carrier Nordcargo now operates as DB Schenker Rail Italia

Italy is one of the most important European markets of DB Schenker Rail; the renaming of the cargo railway Nordcargo accomodates for this fact

Italy’s second-largest cargo railway has had a new name since the beginning of this year. The former Nordcargo S.r.l. now operates as DB Schenker Rail Italia S.r.l. Already in January 2009, DB Schenker Rail purchased 49 percent of Nordcargo with headquarters in Milan and a year later this percentage could be increased to 60 percent which results in a majority for the DB subsidiary.

Italy is one of the most important European markets for DB Schenker Rail. About 30 percent of the international turnover were generated with transports from and to Italy in 2014.

DB Schenker Rail Italia operated 11.000 trains with a total of 1,7 million train kilometres and is responsible for traction in Italy on international connections with a focus on Northern Italy but also down to Naples on the Tyrrheanian and Pescara on the Adriatic coast.
