GLS Austria builds EUR 3.5 million Eco-Depot in Vorarlberg

With a total surface of 5,571 m², the Eco-Depot is twice as large as the current location. A particular focus is on the environmental aspect. So GLS already integrated charging stations for the planned use of electric cars. The parcel company is also counting on efficient energy use, e.g. through a heat pump heating and underfloor heating in the depot.

Especially in winter, staff and delivery drivers will benefit from the pleasant temperatures in the hall. In addition, GLS Austria will use recyclable building materials. “The Eco-Depot in Rankweil is an example of how we combine economic growth and environmental progress,” says Dr. Axel Spörl, Region Manager GLS Austria & Portugal.

After a planning period of eight months, the new depot will be built in the immediate vicinity of the previous location. Four gates for trucks, 38 gates for delivery vehicles and a sorting system that can handle up to 2,500 parcels per hour, provide for increased capacity. Also a potential future increase of the depot is already scheduled.

GLS Austria is a subsidiary of GLS, General Logistics Systems B.V. (headquartered in Amsterdam). GLS provides reliable, high-quality parcel services for more than 220,000 customers in Europe, as well as additional logistics and express services.
