GMB gig-economy challenge to Hermes

Hermes is to face a legal challenge from the GMB union over self-employed status of its couriers.

Hermes rejects Guardian living wage claimsProceedings have been lodged with the Employment Tribunal by solicitors Leigh Day.

The case is on behalf of eight Hermes couriers. The union said that the couriers are identified by the company as self-employed, which means they do not receive holiday pay or the national living wage. It argues that the couriers should be regarded as employees.

Logistics Manager is awaiting comment from Hermes.
