Grayling supports Transport for the North plan

Transport secretary Chris Grayling has said that a proposal for Transport for the North to become England’s first sub-national transport body is “an important step”.

“This is another important step forward for Transport for the North and will help the region to speak with one voice on its transport priorities,” said Chris Grayling, transport secretary. “The Government is committed to working together with our public and private sector partners in the North to embrace the on-going opportunities to deliver the Northern Powerhouse.”

The organisation plans to transform the North’s transport infrastructure, as well as boost the economy and generate as much as 850,000 jobs by 2050.
