La Log builds a bridge to Croatia for European Food Network

Network for temperature controlled food logistics consolidates market apperance in Belgium and Italy and enters the market in Croatia

Almost a year after its founding, the European Food Network has received a boost from Italy, Belgium and, most recently, from Croatia. Papp Italia, the joint subsidiary of the German Balthasar Papp Internationale Lebensmittellogistik and the logistics provider Dachser, took over 25 per cent of the medium-sized food logistics provider Mazzocco S.r.l. in March. Specialising in temperature-controlled distribution and contract logistics, Papp Italia operates four locations with warehouse capacity in Parma, Pescara, Rome and Milan.

“Our services complement each other very well and the new locations are strategically very valuable to our network,” says Alfred Miller, Managing Director Dachser Food Logistics. Mazzocco’s entrance in the network helps Papp Italia strengthen its position in Italy. Both companies have been active in the market since 1997 and each generates turnover of around EUR 30 million. Together they have five storage and distribution points with more than 40,000 m² of refrigerated space in Northern and Central Italy.

March also saw Dutch partner in the European Food Network, Bakker Logistiek, take over 70 per cent of the Belgian food logistics company European Food Transport (EFT). Until this agreement was signed, EFT was part of the Univeg Group, and has two locations – Sint-Katelijne-Waver (Mechelen) and Rumbeke (Roeselare) – and thus neatly covers Northwest Belgium. “On the one hand, we can organise network distribution in the country more efficiently. On the other, we can process exports from Belgium more effectively,” says Miller in highlighting the importance of the investment. “Now we can reach the markets in France, the UK and the Netherlands even more quickly from Belgium.”

Yet another provider is now helping strengthen the European Food Network. One of Croatia’s largest logistics companies, La Log will take over distribution services in the Balkan country. With more than 20 years experience in handling refrigerated foods and more than 60 of its own refrigerated vehicles, a comprehensive and premium delivery in Croatia can be guaranteed.

The European Food Network brings together twelve established European food logistics providers. This pan-European network stands for reliable cross-border food logistics, applying uniform standards in 21 countries. The unified product portfolio vivengo ensures consistency network-wide.
