Lifting technology by Felbermayr for the Eurovision Song Contest

Felbermayr Transport- and Lifting Technology provides support to stage construction for the major event Eurovision Song Contest Vienna 2015

When the Wiener Stadthalle event centre stages the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest on the 23rd of May, 400 security staff and 300 police officers will take care of security. However, Felbermayr together with Bilfinger Gerätetechnik will also be involved in the major event of European dimensions and provide some two dozen cranes, work platforms and forklifts for stage construction.

„From 250 ton-cranes to battery-operated telescopic forklifts equipped with white chains for inside use and a 57 metre high self-propelled platform, practically our whole range of devices was used on location,“ Thomas Daxelmüller of Felbermayr Transport- and Lifting Technology expresses excitedly. The confined spatial conditions presented the greatest difficulties during this operation. For instance, the devices needed for stage construction needed to be provided within precise time frames.

Nevertheless, more than 20 sky-blue machines were used at a time in the Stadthalle event centre in peak periods. „The largest machine used was a 250 ton crane,“ Daxelmüller remarks and explains that this crane was needed to lift 18 ton emergency power generators that guarantee independent power supply for the finals on the 23rd of May.

When, on the 23rd of May, the curtains are lifted for the finals, Felbermayr machines will be there, too. Albeit behind the stage – just to make sure everything goes according to plan, four mast platforms were requested for unforeseen technical operations. At the end of May, the sky-blue fleet will once again arrive to dismantle the technical installations It should take approx. two days to dismantle everything that had been erected in the weeks before.
