Mondi Neusiedler „travels“ with Rail Cargo Group

Environmentally friendly rail transport of an ecological product – also for goods issue from Ulmerfeld-Hausmening (Lower Austria)

Each year Rail Cargo Logistics supplies the paper plant Mondi Neusiedler GmbH in Ulmerfeld-Hausmening (Lower Austria) with more than 200,000 tonnes of cellulose, the raw material for the production of paper. Block trains and wagon groups from different forwarding stations travel each week into the paper production facilities.

Reliable control of the entire transport chain – starting with the coordination of wagon reservation and loading, through the transport itself, right up to receipt of the goods by the customer – was ensuring both punctuality and the optimum transport quality, the company states in a press release.

Cellulose is an important raw material for the production for paper, 90 per cent of this raw material produced worldwide is made from wood. In total 14 different types of cellulose can be used for the processing into different paper types.

From Germany (loading terminal at the Brake Unterweser port), the Netherlands (loading terminal in Vlissingen-Sloehaven), Slovakia (Liskova Mondi Ruzomberok) and Pöls in Austria (Zellstoff Pöls) the transport is carried out on the environmentally friendly rail directly to the production site in Ulmerfeld-Hausmening, Lower Austria. The demand-oriented control is performed in groups of wagons or complete trains of the Rail Cargo Group. For example, individual volumes from Brake, Vlissingen, Liskova and Pöls are consolidated in wagon groups in order to increase the train utilisation and to optimise the use and the duration of transport.

In addition, the Rail Cargo Group carries more than 60,000 tonnes of finished format paper per year, mainly to Switzerland, but also to Austria, Germany, Turkey and Greece.
