New railway concept for Eastern Austria – Rotterdam

European Gateway Services (EGS), Rail Cargo Group and TX Logistik to connect Wels, Enns and Vienna with Rotterdam from 26 September

Rail Cargo Operator, ECT’s subsidiary European Gateway Services (EGS) and the private railway enterprise TX Logistik are to establish a new rail system linking Austria to Rotterdam on 26 September. Three weekly block trains departing from Wels and Vienna to Rotterdam are completed by two weekly rotations on the Enns-Rotterdam route. Roland Spedition will be acting as Austrian sales partner on behalf of EGS. Rail Cargo Operator will be providing further connections from the junction in Wels to terminals in Austria and Central Europe.

ECT’s subsidiary European Gateway Services is the driving force of this development in the form of targeted investments into the establishment of new regular transport services on the railway from Rotterdam to the neighbouring countries and regions. Whereas the focus had been on accelerating and increasing the schedules to Southern Germany, with stations in Stuttgart, Munich and Regensburg, Austria is now the focus of this strategy.

What makes the schedule more attractive are connections from the Austrian gateways. At the stations in Wels and Vienna, Rail Cargo Operator offers options to forward or procure container shipments to/from Bratislava, Budapest and Arad in Western Romania. Furthermore, Roland Spedition operates connections within Austria to Linz and Graz. “This gives importers and exporters access to two networks in Central and Eastern Europe“, says Franz Zauner in his function as Austrian representative of the Dutch seaport.
