OT Logistics acquires 20.81 per cent stake in Croatia’s Luka Rijeka

Poland’s OT Logistics has bought 2.8 million new shares issued by Croatian port operator Luka Rijeka for EUR 14.8 million

OT Logistics said in a statement that the operating capacity of the port of Rijeka was under-utilised by about 25 percent and that the primary objective of the investment was “fuller use of the potential of the port.” The current port handling capacity is over 8 million tons.

The purchase of the stake in Luka Rijeka may allow the Polish group to grow in the southern part of South East Europe, favourably situated for the logistics sector and to expand its activities to surrounding countries. Consequently, OT Logistics said it does not rule out the possibility of increasing its stake in Luka Rijeka over the longer term. The current port handling capacity in Rijeka stands at over 8 million tons, including 5 million tons of bulk cargo and 3.2 million tons of general cargo. Luka Rijeka also owns a 49 per cent stake in a container terminal with the transhipment capacity of 600,000 TEU.

“The acquisition of shares of Luka Rijeka is the next step in the development of the OT Logistics group and the construction of international transport and logistics group with its range covering the main transport corridors (including the corridor Baltic – Adriatic). The Port of Rijeka is part of connecting the Adriatic sea ports to the southern Baltic, two of which belong to the group of important OT Logistics – the Port of Świnoujście and the OT Port of Gdynia,” the company announces in a statement.
