Port of Koper handled record volume in 2016

The Luka Koper port published its financial results for 2016 on its website on 19 January 2017. The figures confirm a top performance in the new cars and container segment. The total turnover increased by 6 percent, from 20.7 million tonnes in 2015 to 22.01 million tonnes.

The Slovenian port has handled a total 844,758 TEU in 2016, which is 7 percent more than in the previous year. The tonnage in the container segment amounted to 8.27 million tonnes (+ 7%).

Growth was particularly evident in the car segment. In the period from January to December the port handled 749,006 units, euqaling an increase of 23 percent compared to 2015. The bulk cargo volume rose by 2 percent to 7.47 million tonnes in 2016.

Net sales grew by 9 percent compared to 2015, to EUR 191.7 million in 2016.
