Prologis snaps up Birmingham site for new logistics scheme

Logistics real estate company Prologis has bought a 16 acre site from U+I for a new distribution park, which will be known as Prologis Park Birmingham International, for an undisclosed sum.

The site, which is next to Birmingham Business Park, is close to Junction 6 of the M42 and less than three miles from Birmingham International railway station and airport. Planning permission for a total of 310,000 sq ft is in place and Prologis expects that construction will start this summer.

Each new building at Prologis Park Birmingham International will be designed and constructed to achieve a minimum BREEAM 2014 ‘very good’ accreditation and the best EPC rating possible for its size.

“There is strong demand for modern industrial and logistics facilities in the West Midlands, but very little land allocated for industrial development,” said Andrew Griffiths, managing director, Prologis UK. “We acquired the Prologis Park Birmingham International site because it is in a prime distribution location and will allow us to offer our customers the best opportunities in the West Midlands market.”

Prologis owns and manages approximately 25 million square feet of logistics and distribution space in the UK as of December 31, 2016.
