Rostock’s port industry met in Vienna

Favourable location for transport and enormous investment into infrastructure rank Rostock second of Germany’s Baltic Sea ports

In the evening of 18 September the “Rostocker Hafenabend“-event was held in Vienna. The Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft and 14 ferry shipping companies, shipping agents and transhipment companies presented the service range of the Baltic Sea logistics hub to 70 participants from Austria’s transport and logistics industry.

A modern oil port, transhipment facilities for grain, coal, fertilisers and cement, and a terminal for general cargo througput make Rostock a universal transhipment area. The ferry port and its connected terminals for combined load transport, forestry products and ro-ro transport form the core of the port. Since the early 90ies, the port has seen outstanding increases in throughput volumes. Last year the seaport of Rostock handled 21.4 million tonnes of cargo.

The “Rostocker Hafenabend“ is an event organised by the Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft, where company representatives of the Rostock overseas port and logistics operators from German and European economic metropolises get together. Yesterday it was the 25th Rostocker Hafenabend that took place in Vienna since the event had been introduced in 2004. The Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft had organised a Rostocker Hafenabend in Austria’s capital in 2010.
