Salzburg Local Railway: Green lights for further investments

Ministry of Transport and federal government to invest EUR 25 million into the maintenance and expansion of the Salzburg Local Railway

Alois Stöger, Minister of Transport, and Hans Mayr, Salzburg’s regional Minister of Transport, signed the eight medium-term investment program for the Salzburg Local Railway on 23 July. In total about EUR 25 million will be invested from 2015 to 2019; half of this amount will be financed by the Ministry of Transport in the frame of the support for private railways program.

„We want to establish the best infrastructure for environmentally friendly mobility throughout Austria. This is why we are investing into the network of the ÖBB and as well as into the network of the regional railways”, says Alois Stöger. “This medium term-investment program enables us to take important steps for the future. The Salzburg Local Railway represent an important piece of transport infrastructure for Salzburg’s population,” adds Hans Mayr.

The joint investment program of the Ministry of Transport and the provincial government involves actions to complete the extension of the railway from Trimmelkam to Ostermiething, also involving the government of Upper Austria in this project. Further investments are: Modernisation of the railway stations in Weithwörth, Oberndorf and Bürmoos, establish lighting signals at three railway crossings and various maintenance investments into the tracks along the entire railway route.
