Tighter security checks for trucks at Polish-Byelorussian border

Up to 34 hours of wait: Strict security control at the border crossings between Poland and Byelorussia affect truck transport

Byelorussia has tightened security checks in the frame of customs control of trucks recently. The reason therefore was the increased security measures due to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and the ice hockey world championship taking place in Minsk in May 2014, reports the Austrian association of international road transport operators AISĂ– (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Internationaler StraĂźenverkehrsunternehmer Ă–sterreichs) referring to information of Polish border guard.

Checks taking five minutes per vehicle at maximum do now take about 30 minutes, resulting in significantly longer waits at the border. Monday evening, January 20, 2014 the wait at the Polish-Byelorussian border crossing Kukuryki-Terespol/Brest was 34 hours, 34 hours at Kuznica/Bialostocka-Grodno and 31 hours at Bobrowniki-Pogranicny, causing tailbacks of trucks as long as 25 kilometres.
