Trend of online wine shopping boosts DPD Austria
DPD already shipped more than 2 million bottles of wine for Austrian winemakers in 2015
DPD Austria has some hundred Austrian winemakers among its customers, and is shipping the noble drops to 225 countries worldwide. An increasing number of customers is ordering wine via the webshop, having delivered the bottles comfortably to their home. “Our special wine shipping solutions, designed for fragile cargo such as wine or champaign, meets a trend when it comes to shipping all kinds of bottles for online commerce. DPD offers specially developed solution for wine logistics, including tested safety cardboard packaging in various sizes“, says Rainer Schwarz, Managing Director DPD Austria. Michael Edlmoser, a top winemaker from Vienna-Mauer, confirms: „Last year the sale of wines via the webshop increased by about 30 per cent. DPD has proven to be a reliable and competent shipping partner for our growing e-commerce business, delivering our wines to our customers in a fast, easy and safe manner. It is crucial to have such a partner in this business.“
In the past years another trend has become clearly visible: The most popular size for shipping wine is a cardboard packaging for 12 bottles. More than 140,000 boxes of this size were shipped by DPD during the first ten months of this year, making it the most shipped wine box. Second comes the box of 6. “We shipped almost 60,000 boxes of this sized this year, with the peak only to come in November and December. We expect a new record for this year“, says Rainer Schwarz about the positive development of DPD’s wine logistics business.
