VKI grills Austria’s parcel service companies

Austrian consumer association VKI attests fast transport handling of Austrian parcel service companies – but shortcomings in delivery

37 million parcels have been shipped in Austria in the first quarter 2014. Is the providers’ quality in the customer service able to compete?

The association for consumer information (VKI- Verein für

Konsumenteninformation) has examined order processing, delivery schedule and average cost at the Post, DPD, GLS and Hermes and compared the quality of their services.

While expectations for the transport times were met by all providers, delivery showed some shortcomings. „Nearly one in five of a total of 64 parcels was placed before the house or apartment door when the recipient was not available,“ says Walter Hager VKI project manager. „This although all companies, with the exception of the Post, advertise at least a second delivery attempt “

One reason for these shortcomings must be the fierce battle for market shares and in the often precarious working conditions of the parcel service employees, estimates Walter Hager. It is the responsibility of the companies to create the necessary conditions. „Who advertises with multiple delivery attempts, must ensure that this promise can be fulfilled.”
