‘Amazing entries’ anticipated for Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2020

One judge for the Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2020 has said she anticipates ‘amazing entries’ that demonstrate the way supply chains have stepped up to the challenges posed nationally and globally this year.

Sue McGeorge, supply chain director, UK & Western Europe, EMEA Logistics at Kimberly-Clark is one of 32 experienced judges for the awards, and said that “this year, more than any” was the chance for supply chains to showcase their excellence by overcoming challenges the sector had never anticipated.

Entries for the awards have been extended to 31 July, to give everyone in supply chain the chance to showcase their achievements in this year of all years.

McGeorge told Logistics Manager about her approach to judging entries for the awards, which takes place on 12 November at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Why did you choose to be a judge at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2020? 

McGeorge: “I have been a judge previously, and have found it a hugely rewarding experience.  I love to see the passion and commitment that is typically demonstrated by the entrants, and reviewing the entries always results in me challenging my own thinking and perspective, and gives me an opportunity to continue to learn.

“I am hugely proud to work within the challenging yet rewarding function that is supply chain, and the awards are a great way to recognise what an amazing industry we are.”

What does supply chain excellence mean to you? 

McGeorge: “Supply chain excellence to me is never being satisfied with the status quo, and it is the art of making things possible.  One of my ‘go to’ phrases is that “everything is possible in supply chain, it is only a matter of finding out how to do it”.

“Finding a fit for purpose solution to an impossible problem, in a unique and inventive way, is supply chain excellence.”

What are you looking for in a winning entry?

McGeorge: “I’ll be looking for an entry where the business objectives were clear, and were challenging; where the solution to the problem was creative, was successful, and was not over-engineered; and finally where there is demonstrable excellence from the people involved.

“This year more than any, supply chains across the country and across the globe have stepped up to challenges that we might never have anticipated and that had a very essential human element to them, so more than ever I believe we will see some amazing entries!”
