‘Amazon’ secures planning for +2 million ft2 East Yorkshire DC

Developer Wykeland has secured detailed planning for a +2 million ft2 warehouse at its MeltonWest business park in East Yorkshire, which has been linked to Amazon as an end user as reported in Logistics Manager last year.

The detailed proposals for the 61-acre site were given the go-ahead this week by a vote of 10 to 1, despite more than 1,300 objections.

The £150 million facility will have have a footprint of 558,000ft2 with three mezzanine floors bringing the total floorspace to 2,012,205ft2. It will have 794 car parking spaces as well as 191 HGV spaces.

The development is expected to take two years and is not likely to open for business until 2024.

The site is located south of the Melton Interchange of the A63 and approximately 8.5 miles east of junction 38 of the M62 motorway.

In a statement, Wykeland Group said, “We will now work with council officers to conclude the agreement and address other conditions so that this important development can move into the construction phase.

“We look forward to working with the end user to deliver the development and the many benefits it will bring, including 1,300-1,500 permanent jobs, additional seasonal and indirect employment, and further jobs during the construction phase.”

The planning application also includes proposals for the creation of a 50m-wide biodiversity and wildlife corridor intended to enhance and extend the existing 35-acre Long Plantation tree belt, which features a section of the Wolds Way and separates the village of North Ferriby from the development site.
