Amazon to open Darlington fulfilment centre

Amazon is to open a new fulfilment centre in Darlington, County Durham – its 22nd fulfilment centre in the UK and first in the north-east of England.

As a result Amazon is recruiting for 1,000 permanent jobs at the fulfilment centre, including engineers, HR and IT professionals and operations managers.

New employees will start in early 2020.

The Darlington site will be fitted out with Amazon Robotics: the robots slide under a tower of shelves where products are stowed, lift it and move it through the fulfilment centre.

Amazon said it has created over 29,500 jobs and invested over £18 billion in its UK operations since 2010.
