CMA CGM becomes operator of terminal in Lattakia

Container Terminal Lattakia (Syria) to be significantly expanded until 2012

On February 9, the French shipping line CMA CGM obtained a concession to operate the Lattakia Container Terminal. In accordance with the signed agreement the facility will be operated by a consortium composed of CMA CGM/Terminal Link (51 per cent) and Souria Holding (49 per cent). The concession is valid for a period of 10 years (extendable to 15 years).

Lattakia is Syria’s main port in the Mediterranean. Its Container Terminal has a 972 meters quay and berths for vessels with a maximum depth ranging between 11.8 m and 13.3 m. In 2008 a total of 580.000 TEU was handled at the Lattakia Container Terminal. CMA CGM/Terminal Link and Souria Holding plans to increase the terminal’s annual capacity to 1 million TEU by 2012 thanks to infrastructure and equipment investments.
