Council defers planning decision on Nottingham warehouse scheme

The council’s planning committee could not go ahead with a decision because of opposition from the local parish councils of Coddington and Winthorpe regarding potential tenants of the site, loss of countryside and the fact that they consider  the developers public consultation prior to submitting the planning application ‘not full and open’ as it only includes one part of a much larger scheme.

An article in the local newspaper The Newark Advertiser reported that Coddington Parish Council chairman, David Armstrong, warned: “If you approve this planning application, you will open the flood gates and make the whole district vulnerable to indiscriminate, large scale, industrial developments.”

The scheme being put forward by Tritax and Simons Development is for a 41-acre extension to the Newlink Business Park Coddington, the home of the Knowhow Distribution Centre. It would accommodate 389,000 ft2 of space in one or two buildings creating around 530 jobs upon completion, including roles in IT, engineering, warehouse operatives, HGV drivers and administration staff.

The proposals will be resubmitted at a later date.
