Emergency Brexit medicine plan
The government is looking to hire an express distribution service for the movement of medicines and medical products between the continent and the UK ahead of Brexit.
In a notice in the EU’s Tenders Electronic Daily (TED), the Department for Health and Social Care said the £3 million contract would involve movement of consignments ranging from small packages through to full pallets.
The service would need to be fully operational by 1st September. There are three separate elements:
- Pan European Express Parcel service:
This is for standard, non-temperature controlled, non hazardous packages. The service would need to be fully operational by 1st September.
- Pallet Services:
This is for standard, non-temperature controlled, non hazardous pallets. The service would need to be fully operational by 1st September.
- Special Services:
This is for a range of consignments including: temperature controlled products, hazardous materials and blood, cell cultures, human tissues, and organs. This service would need to be fully operational by 1st November.
