Gazeley wins Magna Park planning appeal

An independent planning inspector has allowed an appeal against the decision to refuse Gazeley planning permission for a 4.5 million sq ft of new space at Magna Park near Lutterworth.

Harborough District Council rejected Gazeley’s plans in January 2018 – after initially approving them. According to the council, the decision relating to Gazeley’s application was “called-in” by a group of district. As a result Gazeley’s planning application was rejected  at an extraordinary meeting of Council held on 10 January 2018.

A public inquiry was held at the Harborough District Council chamber earlier this month. The planning inspector leading the inquiry ruled that planning permission should be granted to Gazeley to build a storage and distribution centre, country park, Logistics Institute of Technology and other facilities, at land at Mere Lane, Bittesby.

The inspector ruled that the benefits of the proposal outweighed any harm that had been identified as part of the consideration of the application and appeal.
