GXO to repurpose defunct Iceland warehouse

GXO, the contract logistics arm of XPO Logistics, is looking to repurpose a 50,000ft² Iceland warehouse in Deeside North Wales after the frozen food retailer secured a new 505,000ft² purpose-built distribution centre at Miller Development’s 2.21 million ft² Omega scheme in Warrington last year.

Iceland is expected to move into the new DC later this year, which means that the Deeside warehouse is now surplus to requirements.

GXO which secured a further five-year warehousing and distribution services contract with Iceland last year, is looking to repurpose the Deeside warehouse as a third-party storage facility effective April 1 2023.

Around 240 workers are employed at the facility. A spokesman for the 3PL said: “GXO will take every step to minimise the impact of this change on its employees, offering redeployment to the wider GXO and Iceland distribution networks, as well as support with finding external opportunities.”
