“Hermes baton” for Gruschina, Gebrüder Weiss, Austrian Post …

On the 26th of April, at the “Gala Evening of European Logistics”, the “Hermes Verkehrs.Logistik.Price” was awarded for the seventh time. The Transport Division of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO) in cooperation with the “Logistik.Kurier” honoured those entrepreneurs who are committed to safety at work, education and training of their employees, as well as to sustainability and the supply chain of their companies. The guests of honor at the event were the German Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Andreas Scheuer, and State Secretary Karoline Edtstadler.

Above all, the top-class jury was impressed by the innovative projects in the individual categories: the Austrian Post was awarded in the Education category for its project “apprenticeship for local and distribution logistics”, thus creating the first training for the so-called last mile.

In the Sustainability category, this year’s Hermes Prize was given to the City of Graz and the Department of Transport Planning/Urban Planning/EU Unit for their GrazLog project, which relieves the inner city, which at times is completely closed, through optimal cooperation between suppliers and logistics service providers via the CityHub.

The winner in the Safety category is Jungheinrich Austria Vertriebsges.m.bH. with its modular, radio-based assistance system called zoneControl. Gebrüder Weiss GmbH won the award in the Supply Chain Management category with its Transport Security Standard project. This protects against cargo theft, as it occurs during transport for high-tech customers sometimes. Gruschina Transport- und Vermietungs GmbH was awarded the title of Best SME for its autonomous tunnel cleaning train.

In addition, Jochen Döderlein, who has been actively shaping the company history of the traditional Austrian company Stern & Hafferl for over 40 years, has been awarded Entrepreneur of the Year. Michael ten Hompel from the Fraunhofer
Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML received the Honorary Prize International in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the transport and logistics industry.

More than 600 guests from 20 nations accepted the invitation to the gala evening of the domestic mobility industry. Among the participants: ÖVP spokesman Andreas Ottenschläger, ÖBB Holding CEO Andreas Matthä, Leitbetriebe Austria managing director Monica Rintersbacher, Wolfram Senger-Weiss (Gebrüder Weiss), Johannes Hödlmayr (Hödlmayr
International), Stefan Krauter (cargo-partner), Alexander Winter (DB Schenker), Franz Braunsberger (Kuehne + Nagel), Alexander Friesz (Lagermax), Jan Kalmring (Panalpina) Thomas Kargl (Rail Cargo Group), Peter Umundum, Managing Director Wilfried Sihn, IRU President Christian Labrot, Kurt Bergmüller (Semperit Reifen), Wolfgang Scheibenpflug (Vienna Airport) and Stefan Barth (Fiat Professional).
