How women move Austrian logistics

“A mixed team in the management has great potential. Especially in terms of empathy, working atmosphere and general softskills. This mixture contributes to a completely different attitude to work and more work performance,” says Romana Steko-Papousek, Managing Director Steko Trans and founder of the “DamenLogistikClub“ (Ladies Logistics Club).

The managing director is an example of a successful entrepreneur in the logistics industry. In 1994 she founded the “Steko-Trans” Güterbeförderungs Ges.m.b.H, which is still run as a family business. In 2014, she set up the DamenLogistikClub, which now counts more than 100 Austrian decision-makers from the transport industry as its members.

“The logistics industry is something very interesting and above all varied. You have to make it very clear to young women that there are alternatives and raise awareness that all these possibilities are open to women”, says Romana Steko-Papousek.

One point that is of great importance to her is the inequality of merit. “Women do so much and it’s not really appreciated, it’s taken for granted. You have to be more confident, more conscious, and more demanding in salary expectations.”

The entrepreneur looks to the future with optimism: “I see the trend towards more femininity in logistics. Even companies from abroad are approaching us who are looking for female executives.”
