Lidl to spend £15bn on British product sourcing

Lidl has said it will spend £15 billion over the next five years sourcing and procuring from British suppliers.

The supermarket has also said it is targeting an increase in sales of British-sourced fresh meat, poultry and fresh produce by over 10 per cent across the next 12 months.

Additional incentives for suppliers will include longer-term contracts, which Lidl said will help give suppliers certainty, invest in the future and create new jobs.

Ryan McDonnell, chief commercial officer at Lidl GB, said: “Our long-term partnerships with farmers are all the more important during economic uncertainty, and with 2019 marking our 25th anniversary, we are more committed than ever to supporting our suppliers here in Britain and offering customers British-sourced products in the future.”
