Maritime Transport secures container storage space at ABP Port of Ipswich

In response to growing customer demand for container storage, Maritime Transport has established a long-term agreement with Associated British Ports (ABP) to operate a six-acre loaded container storage facility at the Port of Ipswich.

The facility which is located at West Bank Terminal and within close proximity of the A12 and A14, the company’s latest addition to its depot portfolio will provide space for up to 2,500 TEU, increasing overall container storage capacity across its network by 12%.

The new facility will open on 1st May 2022.

Two Kalmar reach stackers will be utilised onsite immediately to service container throughput.

Both of the stackers form part of an order for 12 new reach stackers which will be distributed across Maritime’s terminals throughout 2022, ensuring the loading and stacking of containers and other heavy goods.

John Williams, Group Executive Chairman, Maritime Transport said: “Establishing a six-acre storage depot for loaded containers at West Bank marks the beginning of a long-term and strategic partnership with ABP.

“It also demonstrates our determination to deliver additional off dock storage, which complements our growing network of inland rail terminals, and provides even greater choice to our customers on a port-centric basis.”

Adding, Andrew Harston, Wales and Short Sea Ports Director at ABP said: “Our partnership highlights the huge demand for port-centric storage solutions, and the growing interest we have seen from logistics providers in basing storage facilities at the Port of Ipswich.”
