Metrans increases its market presence in Austria

In the Austrian market of container operators, a strong European supplier is gaining momentum. It was only in mid-September that Metrans Group added four weekly import trains from Hamburg and Bremerhaven to Linz to its timetable. With this, the subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) underlines its position as one of the leading providers of hinterland transport by rail to Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe.

“We want to position ourselves as a high-performance container operator in Austria,” emphasises Peter Kiss, CEO of Metrans Group. This is reflected in their seven weekly rotations between the Container Terminal Salzburg (CTS) and the German seaports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven. Starting from Linz, in addition to the new import trains from Hamburg and Bremerhaven, four weekly block trains run to the Slovenian seaport of Koper. Moreover the operator provides services from Krems/Danube to the northern and southern ports as well as empty container supply from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary to the terminals for unaccompanied combined transport in Vienna, Krems, Linz, Salzburg and Graz.

The Metrans Group currently operates around 450 weekly block trains, handling an annual transport volume of more than 1 million TEUs. The 1,850 employees at the group’s own locations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia and Italy generated sales of EUR 353 million in 2017.
