Ocado expands warehouse space at Park Royal

Online grocer Ocado has taken a new 52,806 ft2 warehouse at logistics real estate specialist SEGRO’s urban logistics and light industrial development Origin scheme in Park Royal, London.

The new facility, taken on a 15-year lease, is rated BREEAM Excellent and will serve as an extension to Ocado’s existing site totalling 68,392 ft2, which it leased in 2014, taking its total occupancy at Origin to over 121,000 ft2. This will enable Ocado to increase capacity for delivery of online orders to customers based in and around West London.

Ed Grover, Property and Network Development Manager at Ocado Retail, said: “Extending our site creates over 150 jobs for local people and allows us to serve a growing customer base in the London area. We’ve seen a huge demand for our services this year and we’re pleased to be able to expand our operations to serve over 10,000 more customers from Park Royal.”

The company has also agreed a new 15 year lease on its existing warehouse  to bring both leases into line.

SEGRO is working with Ocado to add substantial infrastructure to enable the operation of additional electric vehicles from the unit.

The agreement builds on the growing relationship between the two companies, with Ocado, in partnership with M&S, establishing a 304,355 ft2 state-of-the-art customer fulfilment centre at SEGRO Logistics Park Purfleet. The expansion at Origin takes Ocado’s total space within SEGRO’s portfolio to over 400,000 across three buildings.

Alan Holland, Managing Director, Greater London at SEGRO, said: “The demand for online groceries continues to rise and we are pleased to be able to accommodate Ocado’s expansion at Origin.”
