Rail logistician SETG enhances blocktrain schedule

SETG reckons with slight volume growth for 2009

Responding to the strong demand for industrial round timber, the Salzburger EisenbahnTransportLogistik GmbH has been operating more ECCO-Shuttle block trains with round timber since June 2009. In cooperation with SNCF Fret, the windthrow-wood that had been caused by a storm in January in southern France is carried away by use of private wagon sets. The trains are regularly serving consumers in Germany and Austria.

Moreover, new block trains on the routes Poland – Germany and Slovakia – Austria were added to the schedule. The round timber wagon fleet of SETG was enlarged by more than 100 large-volume units.

SETG is acting as a rail logistics enterprise throughout Europe. It operates block trains with own charter locomotives and special round timber wagons, suitable for transportations of round timber, trimmed timber and wood chips. In addition the company offers solutions for shipments with individual wagons from eastern Europe to Austria and Germany.

In 2008 SETG controlled transportations of around 2.1 million tons of wood products. In spite of the economic crisis, which also affected the timber industry, Managing Director Gunther Pitterka expects volumes to grow slightly this year.
