Several logistics giants postpone deliveries to show respect to the Queen

Several e-commerce and delivery companies have announced that they are ceasing deliveries on Monday 19th September as a sign of respect for the late monarch.

The UK Government has said that there “is no obligation on organisations to suspend business during the National Mourning period.

“Depending on the nature and location of their business and the tone of planned events, some businesses may wish to consider closing or postponing events, especially on 19th September 2022.”

Despite this, many logistics firms have decided to suspend operations on the day.

Royal Mail.
“Royal Mail has announced that services will be suspended on Monday 19 September. The close relationship between the monarch and the British postal service has endured for more than 500 years, ever since King Henry VIII appointed the very first postmaster. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II continued this close relationship, taking a keen interest in Royal Mail and playing an active role in the selection and approval of stamps.”

Royal Mail CEO, Simon Thompson said: “We are proud that over the coming days Royal Mail will play an important role delivering messages of condolence from all around the world to the Royal family.”

Yodel.
The company will also be cancelling all of its deliveries and a spokesperson for the firm said: “We can confirm that Yodel will be treating Monday 19 September, the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, as a bank holiday.”

Amazon.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Amazon will be observing the bank holiday with all UK employees being offered additional holiday to allow them to pay their respects,” an Amazon spokesperson told Charged.

DPD.
The company confirmed that its delivery and collection services will not operate throughout Monday 19th September, “out of respect for Her Majesty”, and to enable DPD employees to “pay their respects and commemorate her incredible reign.”
