Significant rise in warehousing and logistics immigration enquiries due to Brexit

Aaron & Partners, a UK law firm has seen a ‘huge’ increase in immigration work from companies in the sector for workers such as logistics managers, HGV mechanics, warehouse managers, and HGV drivers.

Adam Haines, an Immigration and Employment Law Partner, said that while the rise in companies applying for sponsor licences began in the beginning of the transition process for Brexit, the problem has become particularly prevalent over the past 12 months. 

He said: “There’s a growing skills shortage in the UK, many companies are turning to other countries to address these issues.  

“We’ve seen a huge increase in demand from companies that need help to fill vacancies.The shortages are particularly acute in the warehousing and logistics sector, where we’re working hard to help companies bring in skilled drivers, operators, and more.”

The company said that the demand showed no signs of easing.

There has been a shortfall of approximately 330,000 workers in the UK thanks to Brexit, according the Centre for European Reform (CER) and UK in a Changing Europe.

And findings from the Office for National Statistics showed an overall reduction in net immigration of 540,000 to June 2022.
