TransFER Enns – Hamburg: New Intermodal Service by Rail Cargo Group
Launching a new direct intermodal link with two round trips per week between Enns and Hamburg, the Rail Cargo Group is expanding its services to Northern Germany. This means also a direct connection to the Container Terminal Enns – one of the most important transport hubs in the central region of Upper Austria. In addition, customers benefit from continuous handling and reduced transport times, as ÖBB’s cargo division is the sole traction provider for the trains.
The Port of Hamburg is the third largest seaport in Europe after Rotterdam and Antwerp, and the largest container port in Germany. The Rail Cargo Group calls at the Port of Hamburg several times a week, making it an important destination. In 2019, RCG’s Intermodal Division transported a total of around 76,918 TEU to and from Hamburg.
The group transported 33,430 TEU to/from Terminal Wolfurt with six departures per week and 576 trains. 43,488 TEU were transported from and to the Vienna/Linz terminal, also running on six departures per week and 576 trains.
The also new TransFER Verona–Lübeck offers a direct, non-stop intermodal connection between Northern Italy and the North German Hanseatic City of Lübeck. This TransFER provides an important link to the entire Eastern European region, since 98 % of the shipments via Lübeck come from Eastern Europe and Scandinavia or are destined for these markets.
In addition, RCG created logistics solutions for transport to and from Sweden, Finland and Norway by means of the ferry routes available in Lübeck. This means a connection of important economic regions in Italy, Germany, the whole of Eastern Europe, but also Scandinavia – all on the environmentally friendly railways, reads a press release of the Rail Cargo Group.
