Vienna Airport expands its Air Cargo Center for EUR 16 million

13,000 m² of storage space to be added to the cargo section of the Vienna International Airport until autumn 2017

Vienna International Airport (VIE) is expanding it Air Cargo Center. In a meeting earlier this week, the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Wien AG gave the green light to the additional cargo facility. This was announced by Dr. Günther Ofner, Managing Director VIE, during an event of the logistics association Verein Netzwerk Logistik (VNL).

The core piece of the expansion project with a budget of EUR 16 million is the construction of a 13,000 m² logistics facility for air freight. Today, the Air Cargo Center at the Vienna International Airport provides 31,000m² of covered warehouse space. The logistics is directly connected to the run-up. Freight handling is based on state-of-the-art IT.

In 2015 the Vienna airport handled 273,000 tonnes of air cargo (including trucking). The airport is striving to beat this figure in the current year.
