Wincanton moves into “new growth phase” with non-exec appointment

Costain Group chief financial officer Anthony Bickerstaff is to join 3PL Wincanton as a non-executive director from 1 September 2020

The move comes as Wincanton said that Paul Dean is to step down as non-executive director at Wincanton from the end of February 2021.

Bickerstaff will take over as chair of the audit committee on Dean’s departure. He said: “‘I am looking forward to joining Wincanton.  The company has a highly respected market position and I am excited to be arriving at a time when the company is so well positioned for growth.”

Before joining Costain, Bickerstaff held a number of senior management and financial positions in Taylor Woodrow, including finance director of Taylor Woodrow Construction. Prior to becoming finance director, he was divisional operations director in charge of Taylor Woodrow Group’s PFI projects.

Wincanton chairman Dr Martin Read CBE said: “We shall miss Paul when he leaves us next year.  He is a hard act to follow but we are delighted that Tony will shortly be joining us.  Tony has a strong financial pedigree and extensive knowledge of the infrastructure and support services sectors. His strategic and operational experience will further strengthen our board as Wincanton moves into a new growth phase.”
