Montan Spedition acquires 100 percent of the Kapfenberg terminal

Established in 1973, Montan Speditions GmbH headquartered in Styria, has been successfully operating unaccompanied combined transports the end of the 1970s. The company uses its own MOCO-MOntan COntainer, of which there are available more than 1,100 units of four different series (Triple, Bulk, Bulk-XL and Flex).

The next major development is now a large investment into the company’s own location. In the spring of 2017, they acquired the remaining shares in the Montan Terminal Kapfenberg, which is now completely owned by Montan Spedition. In this way, the private company underlines its commitment to combined transport and will continue to focus on this environmentally friendly and economical mode of transport.

Opened in 2007, Montan Terminal Kapfenberg is located in the heart of the Styrian heavy industry region on a surface of 60,000 m²s. The site offers two trailing tracks with a total length of 1,100 meters; 5,000 m² of warehouse space, 20,000 m² of open warehouse space, a container depot for up to 900 TEU, 14 bulk containers, 1,200 m² of office space and a separate container and truck workshop. Thanks to its infrastructural connection to the higher-ranking rail network (Southern railway connecting Vienna and Trieste) and the road network (S6 highway), the terminal for unaccompanied combined transport is a gateway for the regional heavy industry involving many world market leaders from various sectors. Responding to the currently excellent business situation, an expansion of a further 50,000 m² is already in the pipeline, as well as a direct motorway access to the S6.

Apart from the infrastructure, Montan Speditions GmbH is investing in additional equipment this year. In the spring of 2017, a further 70 units of the MOCO-Flex series will be delivered and placed on the market. These containers, which can be loaded and unloaded from three sides (top, side, rear), are mainly used for shuttle transports of “loose raw material to feed the production line – packaged finished goods for immediate return transport”.
